Socks!

As I do laundry, I always think of my children.

Those who know me well, know I do not enjoy doing laundry.  It is one of those things that continues and never ends.  I dream of the day when laundry will end.  Which, I know, is never.

Matching socks is the worst part of doing laundry.  For a while, I did what my sister-in-law did and just threw the socks in a box and the kids just had to find a pair.  Well, I did this for a year and no longer!  It proved to not be as effective as I had hoped.  Ethan would always be so cranky in the mornings because he never had socks.  He did have them; we just could never find them.  Parker wouldn't get cranky, but would find some socks.  Madilyn was too little to care, and we live in Arizona so she wears sandals often.

The socks are what make me think of my kids.

Since Ethan died, I really try hard to think of laundry as a service to my family.  I look for ways to serve others as much as I can.  This is one way to continously serve my family.  I make an extra special effort to remember my children and "serve them" as I match the socks.  It makes it just a little easier.  I'm still a work in progress.

  1. It was good to see you last week. You look beautiful...like you haven't aged a bit.
I, too, hate laundry - -particularly the socks. We started pinning them before they go into the wash. At least this way -- Greg and I always have matching socks and don't have to search through the "general population!"

  2. Thanks Tacie. It was so fun seeing you too--and the whole Kerr family. I can't believe how long it had been. I never quite feel as old as I am so I have a hard time believing it had been almost 15 years since I'd seen you guys. Weird.
I'm going to start pinning the socks!
