Once on This Island

Once on This Island means a lot to our little family.  This is the fourth time my husband has directed this once-Broadway production.  It is a beautiful story.

When Parker was 5, Marcus cast him in as "Daniel's Son".  It is a short part in the last scene of the play where the  son of one of the characters dances and "tells the story" of this island.  Parker loved being such a big kid!  Well, when Marcus directed it again for another theatre (not ours), he cast Ethan as "Daniel's son" and Ethan came on during that last scene and danced and "told the story".  Ethan was adorable and absolutely LOVED being on stage.  Other than this short stint, he performed in Peter Pan and Wendy as Nibs.

Because my husband loved this show and Ethan learned to love the stage with this show, we chose the song "Human Heart" from this play to be sung at his funeral.  His cousin, Corrinne, sang it with backup from about 30 Actors Youth Theatre actors.  It was amazingly beautiful.  I probably cried the hardest during this song.  The spirit it brought to the room was awesome.

So, here we are in our theatre's tenth year.  We decided to perform Once on this Island again and dedicate the show to Ethan--the show that introduced the stage to our little guy.

If you are in the area, come see it!  You won't be disappointed.
